How does a dual-stage shower timer differ from a regular shower-timer?

Introduced in ’09, a dual-stage shower timer not only controls shower times, it also cuts the water flow when time is up. A shower timer on the other hand, generally times a shower, but has no control over the flow of the water.

Many shower lovers find favor with a dual-flow timer in that it allows them to enjoy a full invigorating flow of water, which is not inhibited by the marginal stimulation (as some say) of a low-flow showerhead. Parents with teens also like the dual-stage device as it gets teens out of the shower in a reasonable time frame. The best news of all, claims the manufacturer, no more cold water showers if you are last in line.

The dual-stage timer is a product of Global Network Solutions and is marketed under the name of “Shower Manager.” The manufacturer provides a savings calculator to determine the savings by cutting shower times.  A patented device made in the USA.

Fun Water Fact No. 10

A latte takes 53 gallons of water to make one drink of latte, according to the World Wildlife Foundation.

Why so much?

The latte drink seems harmless from the outside but Planet Green has found out that it takes 53 gallons of water to make one cup of latte drink. The latte has a little milk and some water mixed. Then more water is added and sugar to finish the drink. A plastic lid is then used to cover the drink.

The plastic has to be transported over hundreds of miles and then it requires an excess amount of water and oil to produce it. Then the paper cup goes through the same process, requiring water and transportation. When we add all those ingredients, the amount of water needed is 200 liters or 52.83 gallons for every latte drink.

Watch the World Wildlife Fund video posted in the article, which explains briefly how they calculated this figure.

When we add all the lattes we drink every day, the figure adds up even more and strains the water supplies in the Earth.

If you want to be more water conservation minded, you might want to switch from latte’s to a simple cup of coffee.  According to the same source, it only take 27 gallons of water to make a cup of coffee.
